I chose to write my paper on the effects of Schizophrenia, and the different types of this disease. I will also try to be informative on some symptoms and some of the extensive therapies and treatments for the affected individuals. This disease has been known of for approximately less than 100 years old. It was first identified by a Dr. Emile Kraeplin, a German Physician, in 1887 considered this as a mental illness; he used the term dementia praecox. The earliest written documents that actually identify Schizophrenia is traced back to Egypt, as far as the second millennium before Christ. Although Dr. Emile Kraeplin was the first to consider these symptoms as a mental illness, Eugen Bleuler was the first to coin the term "Schizophrenia" in 1911.
An overview of Schizophrenia and its definition is the obvious, that of a mental illness and a brain disorder. It is not a split personality, as some may think.
