What brought Rome to the brink of destruction? During the beginning of Rome's history, there marked a tragic event which could've led to the ending of the Roman Empire before it even began. This event was the Sacking of Rome, conducted by the Senones, a single tribe of Gaul. How this force was able to defeat the Romans in a direct combat despite the Roman's outnumbering them brings many to question, however without a doubt, no one can deny that Rome was on the brink of destruction from the Gallic forces. The speed conducted by the Gaul's to assemble at Rome was what surprised the Roman's and thus led them to their defeat. Sacking Rome, the Romans attempted to buy their survival with gold, and thus the Senones accepted and begun to leave, having taken their weight in gold. However as they left, the Senones were later on defeated by the exiled dictator, Marcus Furius Famillus, who mustered an army and proceeded to annihilate the Gaul's outside the city. Despite the Senones eventual death, it is notable that they were able to sack and conquer Rome and could've prevented Rome ......
