How to Give a Subcutaneous Injection Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Almost every person has been given a subcutaneous injection (also called a SubQ injection for short) whether it was for immunizations or other vaccinations. What most people don't realize is all the steps needed to safely prepare and then administer the injection; and that is what is going to be explained. This type of injection or shot of medicine is administered with the use of a syringe with an attached needle directly into the fatty tissue between the skin and muscle on the body called the subcutaneous tissue. To properly administer safe SubQ injections there are a few items that will be required that include the following: * Pair of medical grade latex gloves to reduce the risk of cross contaminating the patients' body fluids with the person administering the injection. * A sterile syringe with a .25 gage needle is recommended for most injections as it will cause the least amount of bleeding by the patient. * A vial of the medicine to be injected into the patients' tissue. For instructional purposes a non hazardous saline solution is used in place of the real medication. ......
