Theoretical perspective in child psych Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Throughout history, developmentalists have attempted to describe, predict, and explain the subjects in which they study (Rathus, 2010, p.8). In Child Psychology there are several different theoretical perspectives. Each of these perspectives provides a different view or explanation on children's actions, and their influences. These perspectives are the psychoanalytical, learning, cognitive, biological, ecological, and sociocultural. With these different perspectives, individuals can see that developmentalists look at things in very different ways. This is shown in their reactions towards debates and controversies in child development (Rathus, 2010, p.28). The three major controversies in child development are the nature-nurture controversy, continuity-discontinuity, and the active-passive controversy. The nature-nurture controversy is one of the most recognized theories throughout history. Theorists have continued to argue about this theory since the beginning.
