New England vs. the Chesapeake Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

By the 18th century, the Chesapeake region and New England had become two different civilizations, due to differences in social, economic, and environmental aspects. New England developed by religious unity and coming together as family, building strong ties, whereas the Chesapeake developed by men who aspired to get wealthy quickly and thus, weren't as united. New England became a united settlement whereas the Chesapeake remained scattered and defenseless. The two societies developed differently because of differences from when the English first came. Those who went to Jamestown were mostly single men, as shown in Doc. C, expecting to create a better life for themselves through fast profits and wealth. Seeing the success of the Spanish Armada, their motives were to dig gold, wash gold, refine gold, load gold” (Doc F). For this reason, the people in the Chesapeake acquired large amount of land and competed with one another, rather than become a unified settlement. On the other hand, the Puritans who settled in the Massachusetts Bay hoped for religious freedom, ......
