Describe the Central Dogma of Molecular Biology
The Central Dogma refers to the flow of genetic information in biological systems. According to Watson-Crick,
Deoxyrobonucleic Acid (DNA) consists of two polynucleotides chains which are held together by hydrogen bonds
complementary bases: Adenine (A): Thymine (T), T is however replaced with Uracil (U) in Ribonucleic Acid (RNA)
and Guanine (G): Cytosine (C). The strands of polynucleotides run antiparallel, 5 to 3 end.
DNA replication is the process that occurs in all the cells, whereby an entire double-stranded DNA is copied
to produce a second, identical DNA double helix. It begins at specific locations in the genome, called
origins. DNA replication is semi-conservative whereby each polynucleotide of the parental DNA acts as a
template for base-pairing to form complementary strand. This is proven by Meselson and Stahl experiment where
they grew E.coli on a heavy nitrogen isotope, 15NH4Cl for 14 generations and then transferred to a normal
heavy nitrogen isotope, 14NH4Cl. The DNA in the bacteria consists of half 15N an......
