Introduction
Fragile X syndrome is an X-linked dominant hereditary condition, which results in mental deficits and
developmental delays ("Genetics"). Since this is an abnormality of a sex chromosome which can be transmitted
from parent to child, it was given the name X-linked. This condition is caused by a break, or weakness, on
the long arm of the X chromosome. It is the most common cause of developmental delays and mental deficiencies
after Downs syndrome ("Genetics”). It has been found in all parts of the world and the majority is yet to be
diagnosed. Around 30% of children with Fragile X have some degree of autism and between 2-6% of those
diagnosed with autism have Fragile X Syndrome ("Autism”). So why is this condition relatively unheard of?
There is an alarming lack of public awareness for this disorder. Due to the prevalence of this genetic
