Introduction:
The most important and historical event for South Asian region post Second World War period is the
establishment of SAARC in 1985. During its establishment, it aimed to promote welfare of the people and to
help make collective self reliance among the population of this region. But unfortunately SAARC has failed to
achieve major success. In fact extreme poverty, mutual suspicion and hatred, political disturbance and
bilateral problems made SAARC ineffective and meaningless. However, in this paper, I am going to assess the
factors that made SAARC ineffective while Asian and EU, at the same time, marked a good sign in the same
field.

The most important problem of SAARC is its inability to discuss and reach consensus on any serious issue.
