African Americans APUSH DAP Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Ida B. Wells, Booker T. Washington, Henry McNeal Turner, W. E. B. Du Bois, and Frances E. W. Harper each presented different strategies for African Americans of the late 1800s and early 1900s, all of which worked towards the goal of full and equal manhood for all African Americans. When these influential leaders gained prominence, African Americans had been freed from slavery for around thirty years. Though their freedom was a promising advancement, these five leaders, as well as their civilian counterparts, grew increasingly frustrated with the lack of respect and equality received from white Americans. Though all aimed for the complete and equal manhood of African Americans, Wells, Washington, Turner, Du Bois and Harper each presented different, and sometimes even opposing alternatives for meeting this goal. Each of these methods presented its own set of strengths and weaknesses for American culture and society, in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Ida B.
