Gus Kenworthy is American Olympian who won silver at the 2014 Sochi Olympics in Men's freestyle skiing on February 13, 2014. Kenworthy gained media attention when he decided to take action against the problematic rise of the stray dog population in Sochi. On the first day in Sochi, Kenworthy heard about the strays and made a trip across town to see a group of dogs living under the media center. He came across 4 puppies and their mom who werent being cared for. The strays were at risk of being exterminated in Sochi to keep them out of public view. I wanted to do anything I could to help. Ive always been a dog lover, Kenworthy said in an interview on Fox Sports. He was determined to bring the strays to the U.S. to find a good home. Kenworthy first tweeted about the puppies on February 11 saying, Oh my glob, look who I just found! :) #sochistrays, accompanied with a picture of one of the stray puppies in his lap.
