In this society more than any other societies in other countries, the concept of inequality has remained strong for many years and is ongoing and extremely pronounced in one area than others. The foundation of this idea is influenced and controlled by the cultural messages that consist of prejudice and stereotypes. Racial inequality can be distinguished by various categories, but in general it means when one race is treated better than another. It is based on differences in physical characteristics. Ethnic inequality is based on liking or disliking a group or an individual based on their origin and cultural patterns. An example from the reading by Beverly Daniel Tatum, Defining Racism; it explains racial and ethnic inequality when it refers to the advantages whites have over people of colored. Whites have access to better schools, jobs and housing.
