Dreams - A Raisin in the Sun Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In our world, pursuing ones dream can create conflict when it prevents others from achieving their own aspirations. In Lorraine Hansberrys play A Raisin in the Sun, the contradictory nature of dreams causes great conflict between Mama and her two children, Walter and Beneatha, each of whom has a particular dream. Mamas aspiration a nicer house, Beneathas dream is to become a doctor, and Walters goal is to gain dignity by providing financially for his family with his own liquor store. The Youngers find inspiration in their individual dreams about how to improve their future; however, pursuing these differing aspirations continues to place them in disagreement with one another. Nonetheless, their dreams alter over the course of the play, enabling them each to find happiness. Beneatha Younger prides herself on her individualism and ambition; she aspires to become a doctor, in part to prove that a black woman who takes pride in her race can be professionally successful. Beneatha is the youngest, most independent and educated woman in her family. She has had big dreams ......
