Review of I Stand Here Ironing Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In Tillie Olsen’s I Stand Here Ironing, I was amazed at the context and information you could receive from a story only twelve pages long. This was my first introduction to the author Tillie Olsen. I truly enjoyed her writings and the way she pulled you in with such vivid images. For, myself, as the reader I felt this was a story of the reflections of a mother who could not decide whether quilt or deniability was the cause of her emotions. Below, is my understanding of this short tale and how the author grabs the reader with emotion. The setting that Tillie Olsen uses is simple, a mother ironing while talking on the phone. The author repeats this picture over and over again reminding the reader that this is just a conversation. Although the setting is simple, as the reader, I got so caught up in the tale that I almost forgot it was a conversation. I felt that the author had to repeat the scene just to remind the reader that this is a story of a mother in the present not the past. A mother who is trying to explain that she can no longer be responsible for the help her child needs, ......
