RICHARD MILHOUS NIXON Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Richard Milhous Nixon was born on January 9, 1913, in a small farmhouse in Yorba Linda, California. His parents were from the Midwest but moved to southern California, where Richard Nixon was born. He was the second of five sons. His mother, Hannah, was a Quaker. His father, Francis, who was a Methodist, became a Quaker. His father worked as a street car conductor, a carpenter, a laborer, and a farmer. In 1922 he opened a combination grocery store and gas station. In his youth Richard had various jobs. He worked as a bean picker, a handyman, a janitor at a swimming pool, and a barker at an amusement park. In high school, history and civics were his favorite subjects. He also played football and starred in debating. He graduated from Whittier College, a Quaker institution, in 1934. From there he went to Duke University Law School in North Carolina where he graduated in 1937. He then worked as a lawyer for five years, marrying Thelma Catharine Ryan (nicknamed Pat because she was born on the eve of St. Patrick’s Day) in 1940 and then joining the Navy in 1942, where he ser......
