Analysis of “The Aristocratic Origin of American Freedom” Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

What is aristocracy? Aristocracy is the form of government in which minority rules under the law. Viereck argues in his article “The Aristocratic Origin of American Freedom” about the nature of civil liberties and American Democracy. He is trying to prove that “the concept of civil liberties is aristocratic. In opening of the article Viereck begins by saying that the founders of the Constitution were aristocrats. These people (Thomas Jefferson and other founders of the Constitution) being rich did not know what poverty was. The crucial first six decades marked the beginning of our American nation. Our “freedom was founded in Europe styled, lackey tended, varlet scrubbed chateaux of nobleman like Jefferson.” Our government was formed by the aristocrat and this American government was extremely conservative and was closed hierarchical governments formed by aristocrats that their rights made were preserved. This power switched between two elite’s. These elite’s were either Hamilton’s elite consisting of “northern merchants” as opposed to Jefferson’s elite “of intellect......
