Cathedral-Prejudice and Jealousy at its Best Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Prejudice is defined as a preconceived judgment or opinion and jealousy can be defined as a distrustful attitude or disposition. Prejudice has been known to affect many races, religions, handicaps, and sexes while, jealousy can drive someone mad. Throughout Raymond Carvers short story Cathedral, the narrator expresses many thoughts, feelings, and emotions. This story is about a man, the narrator, and his wife. The narrators wife is friends with a blind man whom she has sent tapes to over many years. He comes to visit the woman and her husband. The feelings the narrator possess through the story are in fact prejudice, bigotry, and jealousy towards the blind man and not friendship. These feelings of prejudice and jealousy are shown through the narrators words and feelings through the story.
