Americas Promise: the Alliance for Youth
It is important that as individual, we give back to our community. The best way to give back to the community is through volunteerism. Volunteering is truly a gift from the heart. I have chosen to do research on a non-profit organization, Americas Promise. Gen. Colin Powell founded Americas Promise in 1997 at the Presidents Summit for Americas Future on April 27, 1997 in Philadelphia. Presidents Clinton, Bush, Carter, and Ford with First Lady Nancy Reagan representing her late husband, challenged the nation to make youth a national priority. Also attending were 30 governors, 100 mayors, 145 community delegations, dozens of prominent business leaders and several thousand concerned citizens. Americas Promise has created a diverse and growing alliance of more than 400 national organizations called partners.
These partners make national commitments to fulfill one or more of the Five Promises. These organizations agree to expand existing youth programs or create new ones and hold themselves accountable by measuring their progress. S......
