Angela Brown Brown 1 Professor Gloria Tidwell English 102 November 6, 2004 A Clean Well-Lighted Place: Fear of Dying Death is defined as cold, unyeiding fate that consumes the soul. Death is inevitable to life. When death takes its tole, one can not defy its complications. The theme of the story, "A Clean Well-lighted Place is about the fear of dying. Contrary to beleif, Hemmingway aloofs us with a hard -bitten relaism of death. Hemmingway suffered from a mental condition. He commited suicide. I beleived this story relates to his own condition of defying death as a morbid soliliquey of life. Contrary to ornate conditions of dying, people believe life is good and it should not be taken for granted. We live our daily lives to fullfill the profecy of happiness; not death. There are three people in this story: 1. the old man, 2. the bartender and 3. the waiter. The central charater is the old man. The narator of the story is told through the veiws of the bartender and the waiter. The old man came to the cafe to drink wh......
