1920’s Automobiles In the 1920’s there was a tremendous amount of new makes and models of automobiles. Of the large amount of new cars there were a few that stood out as a much higher performing automobile. Those cars of higher standers were the Stutz Bearcat, the Crossley 25/30, and of course Henry Ford’s Model T. These automobiles of the 1920s helped pave the way of the future in automobile design and performance. The inventor of the Stutz Bearcat, Harry C. Stutz, had an idea unlike any other automobile out there. The Bearcat was the first car to have a different way of mounting the chassis of the cars. Harry Stutz had an idea to hang the chassis from the axels instead of leaving them unsteadily balancing on top. The gearbox on this car was completely redone as well. It consisted of a four speed right hand shift with chrome shafts revolving on ball bearing. Thus creating a more easily driven, and smoother shift. According to Stutz, the typical angled driveshaft of the era cost its vehicle five to 15 percent of its power. In the American Under slung, driveline losses cost it......
