Pittsburgh Pirates—An Introduction to the Word “Revenue” Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

After an impressing turnout of 38, 016 fans on Opening Day 2005, the Pirates season seemed to be off to a bright start. But, when Milwaukee made the third out in the bottom of the ninth inning and the score was 9-2, in favor of the Brewers, that brightness was immediately covered by a huge cloud. After a mediocre season last year, the Pirates organization came out with an advertising campaign using the catchy slogan “Come Hungry.” While most of Pittsburgh was anticipating the first pitch on opening day, they also were ready to see what the Pirates had to offer on their plate. A majority of the fans left opening day with an empty stomach simply because of what happened on the field. The new advertising campaign brought in many fans on opening day, but are the fans still hungry for more? Last year the Pirates managed to bring in an average attendance of 21,107 fans per game in a stadium that holds 38,496. Their payroll was one of the lowest in the MLB at $32,227,929 with a median salary of $350,000. This year the payroll was increased to $38,133,000 and the median salary ......
