Huck and Jim's Quest for Freedom Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Huck and Jim’s Quest for Freedom Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is about a poor white boy who does not wish to be a member of civilized society. Throughout the novel, Huckleberry Finn tries to figure out the value of all the civilizing influences that he comes in contact with. He decides early in the novel that becoming “sivilized” is not of very much importance to him. Throughout the book, Huck is on a quest for freedom and is constantly running from civilization. Another important character of the novel is Jim. Fortunately, Jim is a household slave as opposed to being a plantation slave. Unfortunately, household slaves, too, have problems to worry about. Two of the problems that face Jim are the fact that he was separated from his family and he didn’t want to be “sold down South.” Both characters are on a quest for a life that is better and more suitable for them. Since Huck was a white boy and Jim was a runaway slave, it is not strange that they are treated differently during their quests for freedom.
