For this observation of toys and their encouragement of social roles, I went to Kaybee Toys. As I walked towards the back aisles could tell right away which isle was the boys and which one was the girls from the differences in color. The girls isle is very pink and very colorful, The boys isle is very dark and neutral. I found that to be very interesting, and realized that color coating a toy has a lot to do with which gender would appreciate it. I found that most of the toys that encouraged violence were encouraged for young males. A couple of the toys that stood out to me were the G.I. Valor vs. Venom: cobra viper and tele viper figurines, the McFarlane Dragons: Berserker Clan Dragon vs. Human Attacker, and the LEGO kit: Spiderman vs. Green Goblin - the final showdown. Notice that each one of these titles include “vs.”, hinting that there is some kind of exciting battle to be fought. I thought the G.I. Valor vs. Venom was by far the most violent example.
