Two Ruined Men Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Aaron Green Dr. Stormer English 110c 22 February 2005 Two Ruined Men The figures of Edith Warton’s Ethan Frome, and Sherwood Anderson’s Winesburg, Ohio, share the similar stories of a failed passion in life. Many are lonely introverts who struggle with a burning fire, which still smolders inside of them. The passion of Wing Biddlebaum, described by the short story Hands, tells us he is ruined, and in comparison, the story of Ethan Frome tells us Ethan is a ruin of a man also. In the chapters, Ethan is within his prime. He is trapped in a marriage with Zenobia and also is very depressed. Even at the beginning of the book when the narrator drops his copy of Popular Science, it is obvious Ethan has a sad nostalgic tone about him, when he talks about the fact he studied in that field. Zenobia’s happiness is to everyday make others miserable. The moment she would leave town, every minute of Ethan’s day would then become better. The thought of Zenobia even makes him jump: “Ethan, a moment earlier, had felt himself on the brink of eloquence; but the mention of Zeena had paralysed......
