People that often use drugs can develop a psychological dependence on them whether its something like marijuana, heroin, prescription drugs, alcohol or cocaine. Drugs are classified in different areas such as depressants being alcohol and heroin, stimulants being caffeine and amphetamines (speed, crack), cocaine and hallucinogens, marijuana or LSD. Depressants cause an initial high followed by relaxation while stimulants cause a rush of euphoria, alertness and energy. Users find hallucinogens to give them a relief of pain, distortion of time and a enhanced sensation while on the high. Although being high has pleasurable effects it comes at a price. Unfavorable effects can include depression, withdrawals, heart disease, paranoia and lowered sex hormones. Drug use increased in the 1970s but after anti drug voices increased their message the use of drugs lowered somewhat.
