Heart Of Atlanta Motel V. U.S. (1964)
1- The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was the most comprehensive Civil Rights legislation passed by Congress since 1875. The second title of this law prohibited discrimination on your religion, color, nation origin, or race. Its goal was to end discrimination in public facilities such as hotels, motels, restaurants, sport arenas, etc. There was a motel in Atlanta, Georgia named Heart Of Atlanta Motel who were racial against blacks. The owner of the motel refused to rent rooms to blacks, he also stated the law violated his 5th amendment rights. The owner also claimed that congress had exceeded its authority under the commerce clause making a law to regulate local businesses, such as hotels that were open to the public. This case was brought to the supreme court, where it was reviewed professionally.
