INTRODUCTION
The disease I have chosen is HIV/AIDS as it account for about 20% of all deaths and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) lost in Africa, which makes it the most major and most problematic disease on the continent. Studies show that the epidemic has had severe consequences on general quality of life in Africa, reducing life expectancy in the worst effected countries by more than 10 years, and thus the social economic consequences have been devastating. New resources are being made available for the prevention, care and support, and thus it is very important to be able to allocate funds toward combating this disease in the most effective manner, it is then logical to turn to studies of cost-effectiveness. Cost-effectiveness studies should be considered with great importance, in the plan for prevention, care and support in order to ensure that the available new resources have the maximum possible effect.
