Lockie Leonard is a hot looking surf junkie. The Human Torpedo is the story of how Lockie and his family moved from Perth, Western Australia to the small country town of Angelus on the East Coast and the experiences he encountered trying to fit in.
The main themes of this novel are sex, love and popularity.
Lockie and his family had just moved into their new house around the time that school was starting. He had a bad start in his new school, until he met and fell in love with a girl (the most popular girl in school Vicki Streeton) and from this point on, life in this small new town changed greatly. Some exciting things happened to him, but what Lockie had to work out was were these new things what he REALLY wanted?
Moving to the East Coast from Perth made Lockie feel like an outsider, he was considered a city boy. This identity was worsened by the fact that his father is a cop and he and his family live on the wrong side of the tracks.
