Marie Curie Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Marie Curie was the youngest of five children. She was born November 7, 1867 in Warsaw Poland to Bronsilawa Boguska (her mother) and Wladsylaw Sklodowski (her father). Marie’s mother was a singer, teacher, and pianist. Her father was a professor of mathematics and physics (“Marie Sklodowska Curie Physicist.”). Marie’s given name was Marya Sklowdowska, but in 1891, when she enrolled at Sorbonne (a school in Paris), she took on the French spelling of her name. When Marie was little, her sister died and then her mother died just four years later. These tragedies made her first years grievous ones. Known for her vast memory and studious work ethic, Marie won a gold medal for her completion of secondary education at the Russian lycee at the age of sixteen (“Curie, Marie.”). Due to her being female, Marie was not accepted to any Russian or Polish universities, so at age eighteen she took a job as a governess.
