Who was Emily Dickinson Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Born on December 10th, 1830 Emily Elizabeth Dickinson was the second child of Edward Dickinson and Emily Norcross Dickinson . In the fifty-five years of her life Emily Dickinson proved to be one of America's great female literary artists. In fact, during her lifetime she wrote over 1700 poems, many of which are still read and studied to the present day. Despite her achievements many people felt that Emily Dickinson was a strange woman. By examining her life experience, personality and the content of her poetry and other writings from various sources we can see that she was indeed a very odd and eccentric person. Living in the small and tradition-bound community of Amherst , Massachusetts Emily Dickinson received a quite extensive formal education as a person of the weaker gender in the 19th century. Because she was the daughter of Edward Dickinson, a scholar of law who graduated from Yale University and became a highly respected man, prominent because of his activities in local and state politics, she " enjoyed a strong secondary education at Amherst Academy from 1840 throug......
