Powers of the Federal Government Defined by Thomas Jefferson and George Washington Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson had their own views on the power of the federal government and used their presidential power strongly during their administration to support their ideas of governmental power. During both Presidents administrations there was a strong attitude of reform, confusion and contention among the leaders of the United States. Both Presidents were trying to do what they thought would be best for the country at the time. Washington used his federalist ideas to make decisions on behalf of the country and Jefferson used his republican ideas to make decisions on behalf of the country. George Washington was known as the precedent setting president. He based most his ideas off of Alexander Hamilton’s ideas of the power of the government. Washington distrusted the common man and believed that the country should be run by the well to do. Basically stating the there should be one nationalized government to run the country.
