1. Introduction John Keats (1795-1821) A. D. as a poet is known to the readers for his sonnets, longer poems and odes. Of these, his odes can be said to have contained the poet’s spark of poetic qualities the most. Keats was one of the finest flowers of the Romantic Movement. His genius blossomed under the romantic breeze, and matured under the sunshine of classicism. By classicism is not simply meant the English classicism of the school of Pope but genuine classicism of ancient Greece. In Keats’s mature poetry, there is a harmonious blending of romantic traits with a classical conditioning. But there was another sort of blending found in the poems of keats, which is his Hellenistic approach with an essentially Greek temper. The Greeks were lovers of beauty, and so is Keats. According to Greek philosophy, beauty is not totally physical or intellectual or spiritual but represents the fullest development of all tat makes for human perfection. The same approach has been unmistakably reflected in all the Keats’ poems, the fact which Percy Bysshe Shelley (1775-1822) very apt......
