Causes and Effects of World War I Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

World War I is arguably the most significant event of the 20th Century. This war which was expected to last but a few months dragged on for four years ending the world of the 19th Century. A war of this magnitude had many factors that contributed to its outbreak. Economic, political, and cultural tensions lasting centuries were sparked by a few events which started Europe down a path of destruction the world had never seen. Soon this war was to become a world conflict playing itself out across Europe and bringing unimaginable carnage and destruction. The tangle of European Alliances and the “Blank Check,” issued to Austria-Hungary by Germany were the most important long and short term causes of World War I respectively; while the psychological loss of consciousness and the rise of the first Communist State in Russia are the most important short and long term consequences respectively.
