The Peacemaker Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
World War I started out as a minor confrontation between Serbia and Austria-Hungary that eventually involved many nations. With the presence of so many countries, it produced a war that had more potential of destruction than ever seen before. It is my belief that the war could have resulted in even more devastation than it did. However, luckily, the war ended with peace thanks to one man. President Woodrow Wilson prevented massive devastation throughout the world, brought the war to a peaceful settlement, and set up a League of Nations to help prevent future wars.
Three main factors helped to secure peace not only for the United States, but for the world; the first being the election of 1916. It not only determined the next President of the United States, it also deemed the eventual outcome of the war. Charles Evans Hughes, President Wilsons competition, probably would have resisted war no matter the cost to America.
