The Grapes of Wrath Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

At first the reader might find The Grapes of Wrath a tragedy, a story of one Oklahoma family with very little, hoping to seek financial and spiritual stability in the abundance of crops in California, but in turn, finding headstrong crop owners and an overpopulation of migrant workers. Although, if the reader were to ponder the real morality of these so-called “Okies”, he would find very prideful people and would realize John Steinbeck had more at hand than a fictional story of one family depicting the horrors of the great depression. The reader’s eyes would be opened to a story of many families, a unity of families, who together could conquer the hardships of death, hunger, and unemployment but, if divided, would find themselves with no shoulder to cry on, no hand to hold, and no heater to sit in front of when the days grew cold. John Steinbeck’s novel The Grapes of Wrath points out the importance of community and what it can do for the greater good. The story The Grapes of Wrath is about one family, the Joad family.
