In what ways did the social, economical and political status of black Americans vary across the US at the end of the Second World War?
Throughout America racism was stimulated from the slave trade which began in the 1600s. It led most Americans growing up to believe that there was inequality between white and black people and this racism and divide continued until mid 1900s. The Second World War which ended in 1945 arose black consciousness and activism. The fight for equality became more public and more widely needed. Although a lot stayed the same in the South there was an evident growth in supporting the civil rights movement and support for the cause. Northern America became more and more aware of equality and life for Blacks was different throughout Northern and Southern America.
Socially America was split into each hemisphere. Segregation was an important part of life for Southerners whereas in the North there was no segregation. For example, in the south black people had to sit at the back of a bus with a curtain drawn infront of them and white would be allowed to ......
