Emily Dickinson Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Katrina Lang Mrs. C. Goodwin English 10, Section 2523-04 4 May 2004 Emily Dickinson was a woman of seclusion, who ironically became a central figure in American lyrical poetry. In her poetry, Dickinson extensively uses the subjects of nature, love, God, and in contrast death. She was influenced by two main aspects, seventeenth century poetry and a strict Puritan upbringing based on The Book of Revelation. On December 10, 1830 Emily Dickinson was born to Edward and Emily Dickinson, of Amerherst, Massachusetts. Emily’s father, Edward Dickinson worked in the precursor of today’s modern judicial system. He began his career as a judge in Massachusetts and later served in the state legislature as well as the United States Congress. Her mother, who shares the same name, was a remote parent who spent no time with her children and was considered an invalid due to a mental aliment she sustained for a portion of her child’s lives.
