A Rose for Emily Author: William Faulkner By: Teresa A short story, “A Rose for Emily” is told from the point of view of the townspeople of Jefferson. Miss Emily not only represents her family name, the Grierson’s, but in a sense the people of Jefferson. She is looked at as a dominant figure by the townspeople who put her on a pedestal and are very judgmental of her actions. “Her voice was dry and cold. “I have no taxes in Jefferson.” I received a paper, yes Miss Emily said.” “Perhaps he considered himself the sheriff… I have no taxes in Jefferson.” When her father passed, it was a devastating loss for Emily. Her father was over protective and never let her develop a relationship with anyone. Her world completely crumbled. Emily tried to hold on to him even though his spirit had left. Three days after his passing Miss Emily finally let the townspeople come into her home and remove her fathers’ body. Although this was a sad moment for Miss Emily, it was also liberating. Emily had the opportunity to take control of her life......
