Leiningem Versus the Ants Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
The story, Leiningen Versus the Ants, written by Carl Stephenson, has a good moral tone. The evil was represented very well by Stephenson. The characters are noble. Evil was presented as dangerous and repugnant. The resolution punishes evil. Leiningen was a brave man that not only wanted to save his plantation from the ants, but to save his and his mens lives.
The character that was most sympathized with in this story was Leiningen. He was a noble man. But so great was the Indians trust for Leiningen, in Leiningens word, and in Leiningens wisdom, that they received his curt tidings, and his orders for imminent struggle, with the calmness with which they were given (p. 14); through this quote, the reader can see that Leiningen was a noble man because his Indians had a great trust for him. Leiningen would not turn himself into the ants, as seen by the ending of the story, he would fight it to the death if he had to.
Evil was represented as dangerous and repugnant if the reader was thinking of the ants as the evil. The ants ate everything in their path; they did......
