As Time Magazine calls her Queen of All Media, Oprah Winfrey, has revolutionized daytime talk show market. Born 1954 in Mississippi to unmarried parents Oprah learned to read at a very early age by her grandmother who raised her until the age of six. Oprah began her public speaking career at the tender age of three when she began reading aloud and reciting sermons to the congregation of her church. When her seventh-grade teacher saw her reading books during lunch she got Oprah a scholarship to a better school. The habit of reading became her outlet and attributed to her strong desire in education, King (1987). From the age of six to thirteen, Oprahs was sexually abused by various male members of her family. Oprah explains in Redbook (1996) I was, and am, severely damaged by the experience of abuse. Motivated in part by her own memories of childhood abuse, she initiated a campaign to establish a national database of convicted child abusers, and testified before a U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee on behalf of a National Child Protection Act.
