Hamlet and Ophelia: An Affair Does Hamlet love Ophelia? If Hamlet does love Ophelia does he stop loving her? Did Hamlet ever love Ophelia? This easy will answer these questions and analyze Hamlet and Ophelia’s affair. In the beginning it appears that Hamlet may love Ophelia but not to the extent that she is the center of his world. Hamlet appears to be preoccupied with getting revenge to really notice Ophelia or pay particular attention to her, but in his own way Hamlet does love Ophelia. One way the audience is able to tell that Hamlet loves Ophelia is when he tries to keep her safe by telling her to go to the nunnery. Hamlet in a way does stop loving Ophelia because begins to mistrust women. This mistrust that Hamlet begins to have of women is because of his mother’s actions. This mistrust leads Hamlet to question whether or not Ophelia is true or not. This mistrust of Ophelia and of women in general is a conflict inside of himself that he is unable to resolve.
