During times of devastation, a countrys ideal situation would be the uniting of the people and working forward. However, in the wake of the recent disaster of hurricane Katrina, that was hardly the case. Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast on August 29, 2005. It was declared a level 5 hurricane. Evidently the residents did not take the warnings too seriously and were not ready. And now the aftermath has been the biggest news for two weeks now. There has been a lot of opinions being thrown around about why this happened and what went wrong.
A lot of fingers pointed to President George Bush. This then led a long blame game among the government officials who were supposed to be in charge. In stead of trying to fix things quickly, those in charge were all afraid of being blamed for this disaster and went scrambling for their scapegoats. The Mayor of New Orleans thinks that the U.S. Government response to Katrina devastation was slow because a majority of the affected citizens there are African American.
