Having a teenage curfew is stupid and useless. There are many people that have been negatively affected by curfews, from teenagers, to parents, to police. Curfews have not even been proven to have any success, so do we really need them?
To teenagers, curfews make no sense. Getting a brand new drivers license will provoke sixteen to eighteen year olds to drive, no matter what time it is. Recent studies show that most juvenile crimes do not occur during the hours that the curfews are in effect (Reza). Instead of restricting childrens nighttime access to public streets, parks, basketball courts, and movie theaters, District officials and community leaders should encourage young people to visit those places. Engaging in activities that occupy them will give them reasons not to commit crimes by day or night (Reza).
