Working with Diane Arbus: a many-splendored experience, Article by Alan Levy
Alan Levy shares about his relationship with the late photographer Diane Arbus in his article in 1973s summer issue of the Art News magazine. He gives his readers an inside glimpse of her life, her accomplishments, and her personality. The article does not focus on the timeline of Arbus career so much as it is a story of a friendship between a writer, Alan Levy, and a photographer, Diane Arbus.
Levy met Arbus in the spring of 1962 when the two were commissioned to work together for Huntington Hartfords show magazine. They did a photo-and-text comic strip of what went in to a one minute TV commercial. Levy, nor anyone else for that matter, had even heard of Arbus at the time. When he met her, he described her as small and trim in her black sweater and brown leather skirt she looked like a teen-ager, however she was actually 39 at the time, and mother of two daughters.
