Although many soldiers died at war due to disease from poor sanitation and bad food. The Spanish-American war was necessary to further the economic and social development of the U.S. It furthered both the social and economic development in many ways. Economically we advanced by finding new markets in other countries for example, other countries needed capital to build factories, railroads ext. We also advanced economically by gaining some more land at the end of the war. It helped us socially as well not only did we make “friends” with other countries we also began to gain some sort of respect from other countries.
Economically we were able to make sizeable profits by investing in places in other countries. We helped other countries get capital to build new factories, roads, and railroads. At the end of the Spanish-American war we gained Puerto-Rico and also Guam. And we also brought the Philippines from Spain for 20 Million dollars. This helped our economic status immensely.
