Li Cunxin was born into an enormously poor peasant family in Qingdoa which is a remote community village in Northern China in 1961.
Li was the sixth child in a family of seven children; he lived in a small house with twenty relatives. His family struggled to stay alive, living at near starvation levels daily, but because of the familys love for each other and determination in life, they survived each day.
In 1972 Madame Mao, the wife of Chairman Mao, decided to restart the Beijing Dance Academy. Due to this Madame Mao sent seven men into the countryside to find children to attend the school. At the young age of eleven, Li, with no previous experience of dancing, was chosen to become a dancer at the school because of his body build.
After seven years of hard and sometimes cruel training at the Beijing Dance Academy, he received one of two given dance school scholarships to study in America. The cultural allocatur for China introduced Li to the artistic director of the Houston Ball......
