Sparta and Athens Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

There are many things that Sparta and Athens have in common but they are also many things that make these two societies completely different. Each Greek has there own way of living. Since Sparta differs so much from Athens, this will cause tension and also war. Sparta and Athens are very different in many ways. Sparta and Athens, the two most powerful cities of Hellas, did not have much in common. The Athenians attempted to develop their artistic and intellectual capabilities, while Sparta remained isolated from the rest of Hellas, without art or literature, without beautiful buildings, without any development of their social and political traditions. Sparta lived on as a fossilized military city, though many other Greeks still admired its military capabilities and more or less stable form of government. Sparta was a military driven society that devoted their lives to warfare. Athens had a military but did not center their lives on warfare.
