Mary Rowlandson wrote a narrative about hardships she faced during her captivity, in a journal. Despite her suffering she thanked God for her life and his mercy. In the narrative, she describes her daily life as a capture. Since she has lost her family and her home, Rowlandson is forced to live with the Indians and must adapt to their lifestyle.
The idea of food is constantly used throughout the Mary Rowlandsons narrative, because she needed it to survive. In the narrative, her views towards the Indians choice of food gradually changes throughout her journey, and how it is related to the change in her own self. After Mary lost her family and her home, she had to hide her emotions and move on with the Indians to survive. The Indians diet was much different from the whites.
