It was necessary in resorting to violence for the African National Congress (ANC) and Nelson Mandela for social, political and economic reasons. In 1949, the ANC, for the first time: promoted open resistance, protest marches, and acts of civil disobedience. Hospitals were also split off, with the white hospitals no different than any other in the western world, while the Blacks were understaffed in addition to poor quality.
