Plato Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Plato tends to believe in his heart of hearts that his respective philosophical utopia is just that—a perfect little world engulfed in himself for himself. I, on the other hand, grossly disagree with him, Plato’s idea that people are born into their lot in life with basically no choices. This little difference in opinion was brought out after reading Plato. Plato’s argument from the beginning was that in general people were bred, so to speak, to do certain requirements within their lifetime. In other words, people were born to do a particular thing and did it their entire life, (i.e., one may be born to be a carpenter while one may be born to be a housekeeper, etc.). The rulers of this utopia were to be the philosophers, which brought me to my first set of questions. If the philosophers rule the state, then how are the philosophers chosen? Are they born into it? Plato pleaded that the philosophers had to know that that is what they were good at doing and that therefor, yes, they were more or less born into it.
