In less than a week time, all Malaysians around the globe will be celebrating the countrys forty-seventh year of independence. The sight of smiling children waving the Jalur Gemilang can easily be seen almost everywhere. Roads and highways all over the country are also taking part in the Jalur Gemilang phenomenon with cars and other vehicles using them proudly decorated with the pride of the national flag every here and there. It seems to me that everyone is proud to be a Malaysian.
As I breathe in the air of freedom, a question floats up from the darkest edge of my heart to the brightest space in my mind. What does it means to me by being a Malaysian? After all, peace and tranquility are natural states of mind anyone can look forward to. In my quest of finding the answer, another question bombards my thought. Is there something much to do with the embrace of being born as a Malaysian?
Strolling back down the history lane, faces of our heroes of the past slowly emerge between my eyes and shouts of Merdeka reverberate throughout the perimeter of my mind. Miraculously......
